Neck Tension - How to Relieve Pain
Neck pain or tension results from the conflict between the mind and body as a result of being located in between. It accumulates due to the neglect of mind and body needs which generates an imbalance in energy. When the body is tired but the mind registers that work should continue this results into a conflict that is transmitted to the neck as tension.
A strained neck does not hold the head properly in position. Emotional stress also creates strains to the back muscles leading to more tension. Most people do not know how to ease neck tension which in turn may become chronic. Stiffness and pain in the neck are common occurrences in modern day living.
One of the best ways to prevent tension in the neck is by expressing yourself articulately. This is because the neck is the epicenter of plans, thoughts and feelings. The mind transmits its intentions through the neck to the other body parts. You can improve your overall health and boost vitality by relieving neck pain. One of the ancient arts of healing neck pain is acupressure which works by stimulating key skin surface points so as to activate the natural self healing body processes.
If you often feel a stiff neck after waking up or you try to turn your head and you are not able to then you may be suffering from neck strain which may also cause headaches. Many people usually encounter tightness, sore muscles and spasms in their necks. When you run your fingers on the neck you may feel hard nodules which are usually muscle knots and are considered as trigger points for neck strain and pain.
Modern day living is usually stressful which leads to strain on our necks as well as the shoulder muscles. Most of the stress is carried in the neck muscles and when they tighten they make other body muscles to weaken every time the head is moved. This implies that the tension in the neck is transmitted to the whole body and should thus be relieved as soon as possible.
There are also simple techniques that you can use to relieve neck tension. It involves rolling the neck by looking upwards then to the right, to the left then downwards. Doing this will signal the brain to release tension that is in your neck muscles as well as correct the reactive reactions between the neck and other muscles in the body. This rolling ensures that the whole neck is soothed as there are fiber muscles that run around, up and down the entire neck. When you are rolling the neck make sure to pinch the neck muscles gently with the index finger and the thumb. You should work on each side of the neck separately from the front to the back.
Releasing neck tension enables us to perform activities better. Working on a computer which requires constant shifting of gaze from the keyboard to the monitor requires movement of neck muscles and when the neck is tense this will be painful. A tense neck reduces performances in sports. It is very beneficial to have neck muscles that are free of tension.
You may be required to see a specialist as sometimes the stress leads to headaches and migraines. Chiropractors are trained to use their hands as well as small instruments so as to apply pressure on the spine which gradually leads to the correct alignment of the spine thereby reducing tension in the neck. In addition, massage therapy can be used in combination with chiropractic treatment.
There are things that you should avoid so as not to experience neck strain and pain. These include bad posture, rising of the shoulder muscles too high which is unknowingly done while typing on a keyboard that is raised too high as well as handling a phone between the shoulder and ear.
