What are the benefits of humanoid robots like Optimus? Robots are already being used in multiple areas, especially where they can alleviate strenuous tasks or complete missions that are dangerous for a human to undertake. Imagine a robot as a mind and a body. 

The mind/computer itself is simply an electronic device that manipulates information, or data. It has the ability to store, retrieve, and process data. While providing it a physical body allows it to manipulate or navigate its environment. For example, a computer helps track and control the assembly, but cannot make any physical changes to a car. A robot at a car assembly plant can actually assist in building a car by grabbing parts and welding them onto a car frame.

The fact is recent advances in robotics and AI are revolutionizing business, society and our personal lives and a leader in pushing all of these forward is Elon Musk. Why is he so passionate about robots and mobilized automation, especially after repeatedly warning about the dangers of artificial intelligence? Because he  wants to make sure it’s controlled and safe. Quite frankly, he already has almost all the pieces needed for humanoid robots, since he now already makes robots with wheels.

What can robots do? Apart from being precise and consistent, robots can work in any environment, adding to their flexibility. They can:

  • Eliminate dangerous jobs for humans because they are capable of working in hazardous environments.
  • Handle lifting heavy loads, toxic substances and repetitive tasks. This has helped companies to prevent many accidents, also saving time and money. 
  • Assist in extreme environments, such as for nuclear inspection and decommissioning, offshore energy and maintenance, space exploration and deep mining
  • Handle intricate surgeries such as prostate cancer surgery, as they are able to reach and fit where human hands cannot, allowing greater accuracy, also allowing them to be less invasive and reduce pain for the patient when recovering. 
  • Assist in the much needed agricultural revolution by increasing the farmer’s added value while maximizing yield and optimizing the use of natural resources.
  • Facilitate the transport and logistics industry, with the help of radio transmitters, vision cameras, magnetometers, LiDAR, lasers, equipped with digital maps, navigation systems and fitted sensors to identify obstacles. Robots can already drive independently to a destination and calculate their exact position and route, as well as identify critical situations and can respond accordingly, boosting safety, reliability and efficiency, and finally, 
  • Help with the young, the old and those in need and revolutionize how care is delivered. Improve how patients interact with professionals to manage their own health and care. 

Overall, robotics and AI augment and amplify human potential, increase productivity and are moving from simple reasoning towards objective human-like cognitive abilities.
