Session 16: Joan of Arc - Faith on the Battlefield
Welcome Back!
Our next legend is Joan of Arc, a young peasant girl from France who became a military leader and a saint. At just 17 years old, she claimed she was called by God to lead France to victory during the Hundred Years’ War. Against all odds, she inspired soldiers, challenged kings, and changed the course of history.

Why Joan’s Lesson Matters
Joan’s story is a reminder that courage does not always come from strength or status. She had no formal training, no noble background, and no wealth. Yet her faith gave her courage that generals and kings lacked. She teaches us that conviction can make even the weakest appear strong. In a world where people often wait until they feel powerful before acting, Joan shows us that courage is found in obedience to a higher calling, even when the world doubts you.
A Real-World Picture
Joan convinced the Dauphin of France, later King Charles VII, to give her command of troops. She led them to several victories, including lifting the siege of Orléans, a turning point in the war. Her leadership and faith rallied an exhausted nation. Eventually, she was captured, tried for heresy, and burned at the stake at age 19. Years later, the church cleared her name, and in 1920, she was declared a saint. Her life still inspires millions as a testimony to faith and courage.
Humor Break
Doubting someone’s calling because of their age is like refusing to light a candle because it’s too small. Even a small flame can push back the darkness.
Action Step for You
Think about one area of your life where you’ve hesitated because you feel too young, too inexperienced, or too unqualified. Take one bold step forward this week. Courage grows when we obey the call, not when we wait to feel ready.
