Session 12: Why Pray If God Already Knows Everything?

Welcome back, everyone. Throughout this series, I've asked you several times to try something that might feel strange if you've never done it before: pray. But maybe you've wondered, “If God is real and already knows everything, why do I need to tell Him anything?” That's a great question. The answer is simple: prayer isn't about giving God information He doesn't have. It's about building a relationship with Him. Think about someone you love. They may already know you care about them, but you still talk to them. Relationships grow through communication, and Christianity teaches that our relationship with God does too.

That's why Jesus prayed. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus regularly went somewhere quiet to pray. He prayed before important decisions, during difficult moments, for other people, and even before His crucifixion. So what exactly is prayer? At its simplest, prayer is talking with God. You don't need fancy words, and God isn't grading your vocabulary. Jesus said, “Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” — Matthew 6:8. Prayer isn't about saying the perfect words. It's about being honest with God.

Here's a simple way to begin. Remember four things: Thank You. Sorry. Help. Listen. Thank God for something good in your life. Tell Him you're sorry for something you've done wrong. Ask Him to help you or someone else. Then stop talking for a moment and simply be quiet. You don't need to force yourself to hear some mysterious voice. Just give God your attention. Prayer doesn't always change our circumstances immediately, but over time, prayer can change us.

So here's your challenge today: give God five minutes. Put your phone down, find somewhere quiet, and say, “God, I don't really know how to pray. I may not even be completely sure You're listening, but I'm here.” Then tell Him what's actually happening in your life. Your worries, hopes, mistakes, questions—whatever is real. And then spend a little time quietly listening. You may not experience anything dramatic, and that's okay. Relationships aren't built in one conversation. They're built over time. Christianity isn't simply about knowing facts about God. It's an invitation to know God personally—and prayer is where that relationship begins.
