OCIA Kids Version Session 9: Reconciliation – Healing Through Confession and God’s Mercy

✨ Understanding Reconciliation ✨

❤️ God’s Mercy and Forgiveness

Welcome Back!

Today we’re talking about a sacrament that can make some people nervous at first:

🙏 Reconciliation

also called

✨ Confession

Sometimes people imagine Confession as:

  • scary 😬

  • embarrassing 😳

  • or sitting in a dark room talking about mistakes

But that’s NOT what Confession is really about.

❤️ Confession Is About Healing

Confession is about:

  • healing ❤️

  • forgiveness ✨

  • and starting fresh 🌈

Think about this:

Have you ever done something wrong and carried a heavy feeling afterward?

Maybe you:

  • hurt someone’s feelings 😔

  • disobeyed your parents

  • lied about something 🤥

  • or made a bad choice

Usually guilt feels awful.

God knows that.

That’s why:

✨ Jesus gave us Confession - not to punish us, but to FREE us.

✝️ Why Do Catholics Confess to a Priest?

After Jesus rose from the dead, He gave His apostles the power to forgive sins in His name.

That’s why Catholics confess to a priest.

And here’s something REALLY important:

❤️ The priest is NOT there to embarrass or shame you.

He is there to help you experience:

  • God’s mercy

  • forgiveness

  • and peace ✨

And trust me…

😄 You are NOT going to shock the priest.

Priests hear confessions all the time!

🧹 Cleaning Out Your Soul

Confession is kind of like:

🧹 Cleaning out a messy room.

At first, the mess may feel overwhelming.

But after everything is cleaned up:

  • you feel peaceful 😊

  • relieved 😌

  • and refreshed ✨

Our souls can get messy too.

Sin can weigh us down.

Confession helps clean our hearts and bring peace again.

📖 How Confession Works

Here’s how Confession works:

1️⃣ Think Honestly

Think honestly about the things you’ve done wrong.

2️⃣ Say You’re Sorry

Tell God you are sorry.

3️⃣ Confess Your Sins

Confess your sins to the priest.

4️⃣ Receive Absolution

The priest gives absolution, which means:

✨ Jesus forgives your sins through the priest.

5️⃣ Do a Penance

Usually a small prayer or kind action to help you grow closer to God.

❤️ God Never Gets Tired of Forgiving

Here’s something BEAUTIFUL:

✨ God never gets tired of forgiving us when we come back to Him.

Think about a loving parent whose child made a mistake.

A loving parent:

  • does not stop loving their child ❤️

  • wants to forgive them 🤝

  • and bring them close again

That’s exactly how:

❤️ God loves us.

🌟 Everyone Makes Mistakes

Remember this:

Everyone makes mistakes.

Even saints sinned before becoming saints.

The important thing is NOT pretending to be perfect.

The important thing is:

✨ Turning back to God when we fall.

⭐ Your Challenge This Week

Try these 3 things:

1️⃣ Reflect Before Bed

Each night think about:

  • one thing you did well 😊

  • and one thing you want to do better 🌱

2️⃣ Ask God for Forgiveness

Whenever you make a mistake, ask God to forgive you.

3️⃣ Remember God’s Mercy

God’s mercy is BIGGER than any sin.

❤️ Always Remember This

God loves you deeply.

✨ He is always ready to forgive you.

And Confession is NOT about shame.

It’s about:

  • freedom 🌈

  • healing ❤️

  • and growing closer to Jesus ✝️
