OCIA Kids Version Session 6: The Sacraments Overview – Signs of Grace, Instituted by Christ
✨ Understanding the Sacraments ✨
Welcome back! Today we're going to learn about the sacraments. The word "sacrament" may sound big, but the idea is actually very simple. Sacraments are special gifts from God that help us experience His love and stay close to Him. Through the sacraments, God uses ordinary things in amazing ways to help our hearts grow stronger in faith.

God often uses simple things like water, oil, bread, wine, and special prayers to show His love. For example, in Baptism, God uses water to welcome someone into His family. In the Eucharist, Jesus uses bread to feed our souls and help us grow closer to Him. These simple signs remind us that God is always working in our lives.
The Catholic Church has seven sacraments: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Marriage, and Holy Orders. Each sacrament is connected to an important part of life. Some help welcome us into God's family, some help heal us when we struggle, and others help people serve God and others in special ways. Through all of them, God is saying, "I want to be with you throughout your life."
Catholics believe the sacraments are much more than symbols. Jesus is truly working through them. When someone is baptized, confirmed, receives forgiveness, or receives the Eucharist, Jesus is there helping, guiding, and loving that person.
You can think of God's grace like a charger for your phone. When your phone battery gets low, it needs power to keep working. In a similar way, God's grace helps strengthen our souls, guide us when we are confused, heal us when we are hurting, and bring us closer to Him.
When you go to Mass, you may notice things like holy water, the Sign of the Cross, kneeling, candles, or incense. These signs remind us that God is present and that we are part of a family of believers growing closer to Him together.
This week, pay attention to the signs and symbols you see at church. Think about a time when you felt close to God, and thank Him for always being with you. Always remember that the sacraments are special gifts from God that help us feel His love, grow in faith, and remember that Jesus is with us every day.
