OCIA Kids Version Session 3: The Bible & Revelation – Scripture and Tradition

✨ How God Speaks to Us ✨

Welcome back to Session 3! Today we're going to talk about how God speaks to us. Have you ever wished God would send you a text message telling you exactly what to do? While God usually doesn't speak through text messages, He does speak to us in important ways. Catholics believe God speaks mainly through the Bible and through the Church.

The Bible is God's Word written down for us. It is not just one book but a collection of many books written over hundreds of years. The Bible teaches us about God's love, His promises, Jesus' life, and how we should live. Even today, when we hear the Bible read at Mass, God is speaking to us. The Bible is not just an old book. Its words can bring us hope, peace, comfort, and courage when we need them most.

God also speaks through the Church. For over 2,000 years, the Church has passed down the teachings of Jesus through the Mass, the sacraments, prayers, and the examples of the saints. This is called Tradition. Think of it like a special family recipe that is carefully handed down from one generation to the next so it is never lost. The Bible and Tradition work together to help us understand God's message.

Sometimes the Bible can seem difficult to understand, and that's okay. Even adults have questions. A great place to start is with the Gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. These books tell us about Jesus, how He treated people, how He helped those in need, how He forgave others, and how He wants us to live.

One amazing thing is that Catholics all around the world hear the same Bible readings at Mass each Sunday. Whether someone lives in America, Italy, Mexico, Africa, or somewhere else, they are listening to the same Word of God. This reminds us that the Church is one big family.

This week, try reading a short story about Jesus from the Bible. Before you read, say a simple prayer asking God to help you understand His message. Then, when you go to Mass, listen carefully and ask yourself, "What is God trying to teach me today?" Always remember that God loves you, God speaks to you, and sometimes we hear Him best when we take time to listen quietly.
