OCIA Kids Version Session 22: Scrutiny III – Strength Against Temptation

✨ The Third Scrutiny ✨

Welcome back! Today we're learning about the Third Scrutiny and an important topic called temptation. Temptation is when we feel pulled toward making a wrong choice. Everyone experiences temptation. Sometimes we may be tempted to lie, be selfish, cheat, disobey, say something unkind, or do something we know is not right. Being tempted is part of being human.

Even Jesus experienced temptation. Before beginning His public ministry, Jesus spent forty days in the desert and faced temptations. But there is something very important to remember: being tempted is not the same as sinning. What matters is how we respond and the choices we make.

Temptation can start small, like a tiny spark. If a spark is put out right away, it causes no harm. But if it is ignored, it can grow into a large fire. In the same way, small temptations can become bigger problems if we do not ask for help and make good choices. That is why God wants to help us grow stronger spiritually.

The good news is that we never have to face temptation alone. God helps us through prayer, the Bible, the Church, the sacraments, and people who encourage us to do what is right. Whenever we are struggling, we can ask Jesus for strength and guidance.

One of the Bible stories connected to this Scrutiny is the story of Lazarus. Lazarus had died, but Jesus called him out of the tomb and brought him back to life. This story reminds us that Jesus can help us when we feel stuck, discouraged, or trapped by bad choices. No matter how difficult things may seem, Jesus wants to help us rise up and begin again.

Making good choices is not always easy. Sometimes friends pressure us to do the wrong thing, or we may feel angry, tired, or frustrated. But every time we choose honesty, kindness, patience, courage, or forgiveness, we become stronger on the inside. Just like athletes become stronger through practice, our faith grows stronger every time we choose what is right.

And when we fail, God does not stop loving us. He invites us to ask for forgiveness, learn from our mistakes, and keep moving forward. Every day is a new chance to try again.

This week, when you feel tempted, try saying a simple prayer like, "Jesus, help me make the right choice." Look for ways to avoid situations that lead you into trouble, and remember that every good choice helps you grow stronger in faith.

Always remember that temptation is real, but God's grace is stronger. You are never fighting alone. Jesus is always ready to guide you, strengthen you, and walk beside you every day.
