OCIA Kids Version Session 20: Scrutiny I – Healing from Sin, Relying on God’s Mercy

✨ Understanding the Scrutinies ✨

Welcome back! Today we're learning about something called the Scrutinies. The name may sound a little scary, but the Scrutinies are not tests and nobody is being judged. They are special prayers that take place during Mass for people who are preparing to fully enter the Catholic Church.

The purpose of the Scrutinies is to ask God to help heal us, strengthen us, and guide us. You can think of them like a spiritual checkup. Just as a doctor helps people heal and become healthier, the Scrutinies help people grow stronger in their relationship with God.

One important thing to remember is that nobody is perfect. Everyone has struggles, fears, weaknesses, bad habits, and sins. The Church understands this, and so does Jesus. Jesus did not come to push people away because of their mistakes. He came to help, forgive, and heal them.

One of the Bible stories connected to the Scrutinies is the story of the Samaritan woman at the well. She had many struggles and mistakes in her life, but Jesus treated her with kindness and compassion. He offered her what He called "living water," which means God's love, mercy, and new life. Just as Jesus cared for her, He cares for us too.

Sometimes people try to hide their struggles or pretend everything is fine. But God already knows our hearts. He knows our fears, worries, mistakes, and challenges, and He loves us anyway. We never need to be afraid to ask Him for help, forgiveness, strength, or healing.

The Scrutinies remind us that God helps us grow little by little. They also remind us that we are not alone. The whole Church prays for those preparing to enter the Church, supporting and encouraging them along the way. It is like being part of a team where everyone helps one another.

Life can sometimes feel heavy. Feelings like fear, sadness, anger, guilt, or worry can weigh us down. But Jesus wants to help us carry those burdens and give us strength. He walks with us through every challenge and never stops loving us.

This week, ask God to help you grow stronger in one area of your life. Whenever you feel worried or discouraged, try saying a simple prayer like, "Jesus, help me." And always remember that God's mercy is bigger than any mistake we make.

God is not looking for perfect people. He is looking for hearts that are willing to trust Him. The more we open our hearts to Jesus, the more He can heal us, strengthen us, and guide us each day.
