OCIA Kids Version Session 20: Scrutiny I – Healing from Sin, Relying on God’s Mercy

✨ Understanding the Scrutinies ✨

Welcome Back!

Today we’re talking about something called:

🙏 The Scrutinies

Now don’t let the name scare you!

The Scrutinies are NOT tests. 😄

Nobody is going to:

  • quiz you

  • embarrass you

  • or make you feel bad

❤️ What Are the Scrutinies?

The Scrutinies are special prayers during Mass for people preparing to fully enter the Catholic Church.

These prayers ask God to:

  • heal us 💕

  • strengthen us 💪

  • and guide us ✨

🩹 Spiritual Healing

Think about visiting a doctor when you’re hurt or sick.

A doctor wants to help you:

  • heal

  • feel better

  • and grow stronger

The Scrutinies are kind of like:

🌟 Spiritual healing moments with God.

😊 Nobody Is Perfect

Here’s something REALLY important:

The Church knows nobody is perfect.

Everyone has:

  • struggles

  • fears

  • bad habits

  • weaknesses

  • and sins

But the GOOD news is this:

❤️ Jesus came to HELP people - not reject them.

💧 The Woman at the Well

One Bible story connected to the First Scrutiny is about:

💧 The Samaritan Woman at the Well

She carried:

  • sadness

  • mistakes

  • and struggles

But when Jesus met her:

  • He did NOT shame her

  • He spoke with kindness

  • and offered her “living water”

“Living water” means:

God’s love, mercy, and new life.

And Jesus wants to offer that same love to us too.

🙌 God Already Knows Our Hearts

Sometimes people pretend everything is fine.

But God already knows our hearts.

And guess what?

❤️ He STILL loves us deeply.

That means we never have to be afraid to ask for:

  • help

  • forgiveness

  • or healing

🌱 God Helps Us Grow Stronger

The Scrutinies remind us that God helps us grow stronger:

✨ little by little.

And here’s another beautiful thing:

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 The whole Church prays for you.

You are NOT walking toward God alone.

Your church family supports you.

It’s like being on a team where everyone helps each other succeed. ⚽

🎒 Jesus Helps Carry Heavy Things

Think about carrying something heavy for a long time.

Eventually:

  • you get tired

  • and need help

Things like:

  • sin

  • fear

  • anger

  • sadness

  • or guilt

can feel heavy too.

But:

❤️ Jesus wants to help carry those burdens with us.

⭐ Your Challenge This Week

Try these 3 things:

1️⃣ Ask God for Strength

Ask God to help you grow stronger in one area of your life.

2️⃣ Pray a Simple Prayer

Whenever you feel worried or discouraged, pray:

“Jesus, help me.”

3️⃣ Remember God’s Mercy

God’s mercy is BIGGER than your mistakes.

❤️ Always Remember This

God is NOT looking for perfect people.

He is looking for:

✨ Hearts willing to trust Him.

And the closer we let Jesus into our hearts, the more He helps:

  • heal us 💕

  • strengthen us 💪

  • and guide us ✨

every single day.
