OCIA Kids Version Session 19: Conversion & Discipleship – Living Faith as a Lifelong Journey

✨ Conversion & Discipleship ✨

Welcome back! Today we're learning about two important ideas in the Catholic faith: conversion and discipleship. Even though these words may sound complicated, they are actually easy to understand. Conversion means turning away from bad choices and turning toward God. Discipleship means choosing to follow Jesus and learn from Him every day.

Think about riding a bike or walking down a path. Sometimes you may head in the wrong direction and need to turn around. Conversion is like that. Whenever we make mistakes, choose selfishness, or do something we know is wrong, God invites us to turn back toward Him. The wonderful thing is that God always gives us another chance to make better choices.

Every day we make decisions. We can choose kindness or meanness, honesty or dishonesty, selfishness or love. Each choice helps move us either closer to God or farther away from Him. No matter what mistakes we make, God is always ready to welcome us back and help us start again.

A disciple is someone who follows a teacher. Jesus had many disciples who listened to Him, learned from Him, and tried to live the way He taught. Today, Jesus invites us to be His disciples too. Being a disciple means praying, learning about Jesus, helping others, forgiving people, and trying to live with love, courage, and kindness.

Sometimes following Jesus can be difficult. It can be hard to tell the truth, forgive someone who hurt us, or stand up for what is right. But we are not alone. Jesus walks with us and gives us strength to keep going. He knows we are not perfect and does not expect us to be perfect right away.

Growing in faith is a lot like learning a sport, playing an instrument, or getting better at a hobby. It takes practice. Every kind choice, every honest choice, every prayer, and every act of love helps us become more like Jesus. And when we make mistakes, we can ask God for forgiveness and keep trying again.

Even the saints struggled at times. They made mistakes and faced challenges, just like we do. What made them saints was that they kept turning back to God and trusting Him.

This week, think about one area where you would like to become a better person. Try to make one good choice each day, even when it is difficult. You can also pray a simple prayer like, "Jesus, help me follow You today."

Always remember that God is always inviting you closer to Him. You do not have to be perfect to follow Jesus. Every step you take toward Him helps you become the person God created you to be.
