OCIA Kids Version Session 12: Anointing of the Sick – God’s Care in Suffering and Healing

✨ The Anointing of the Sick ✨

Welcome back! Today we're learning about a special sacrament called the Anointing of the Sick. Some people think this sacrament is only for people who are about to die, but that is not true. The Anointing of the Sick is a way God brings comfort, peace, strength, and healing to people who are sick, suffering, or going through difficult times.

When people are sick or hurting, they often want family and friends nearby to help and encourage them. In the same way, Jesus wants to be close to us when we are struggling. Through the Anointing of the Sick, God reminds us that we are never alone and that He cares deeply about us.

During this sacrament, a priest prays for the person and anoints them with holy oil. The oil is a sign of God's love, healing, and care. Even though it may seem simple, God is working in a special way. He gives strength, peace, courage, and grace to help people face their challenges.

Sometimes people receive physical healing, and sometimes they do not. But God always gives spiritual help and comfort. Being sick or weak does not mean God has forgotten you. In fact, God is often especially close to people during difficult times. Jesus understands suffering because He experienced pain, sadness, and hardship during His life on earth. He knows what it feels like to struggle, and He wants to help us carry our burdens.

The Catholic faith teaches that even during hard times, God can do good things in our lives. Difficult experiences can help people become more compassionate, patient, loving, and closer to God. They can also help us learn to trust Him more.

As followers of Jesus, we are called to care for people who are sick, lonely, elderly, or hurting. Even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. A visit, a smile, a prayer, a phone call, or simply spending time with someone can help them feel loved and supported.

This week, pray for someone who is sick or going through a difficult time. Look for a way to show kindness to someone who may be lonely or hurting, and remember that God is with you during both good times and hard times.

Always remember that you never suffer alone. Jesus walks beside you, cares about you, and wants to help you through every challenge. God's love is always with you, especially when you need it most.
