NEW TESTAMENT TRIVIA – PART 7
NEW TESTAMENT TRIVIA – PART 7
Summary (trivia questions follow)
While exiled on the island of Patmos, the apostle John received a powerful revelation from Jesus Christ about the end times. An angel revealed these visions to John, showing him what would take place in the future. Jesus instructed John to write letters to seven churches, each with encouragements and warnings. Jesus is described as walking among golden lampstands, which represent the churches. To those who remain faithful, Jesus promised crowns and eternal rewards.
John then saw a scroll sealed with seven seals. Only Jesus, called the Lion of the tribe of Judah, was worthy to open it. As each seal was opened, judgment unfolded on the earth. Four horsemen appeared, symbolizing conquest, war, famine, and death. After the seals came seven trumpets, announcing further judgments. A star fell from heaven, bringing destruction. Angels sounded the trumpets, signaling God’s authority over creation.
John saw a woman clothed with the sun, symbolizing God’s people. A great dragon tried to destroy her child, but God protected her. Two beasts rose up, one from the sea and one from the earth. The number of the beast was 666, marking those who followed evil. Standing with Jesus were 144,000 faithful followers who remained loyal to Him.
John witnessed the fall of Babylon, which symbolized the corrupt world system opposed to God. Babylon was called a harlot and was judged for her sins. Then John saw Jesus riding on a white horse, returning as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The beast and the false prophet were thrown into the lake of fire.
Satan was bound for one thousand years, during which Christ reigned. After this, Satan was released briefly before being defeated forever. He was then thrown into the lake of fire. John witnessed the final judgment at the great white throne, where books were opened, including the Book of Life. Those whose names were not written in it were judged.
John then saw a new heaven and a new earth. God came to dwell with His people. All tears were wiped away, and there was no more death, pain, or sorrow. The holy city, the New Jerusalem, came down from heaven. It had twelve gates made of pearls and shone with the glory of God. A river of life flowed from God’s throne, and the tree of life provided healing.
An invitation was given to all people to come and receive the water of life freely. Jesus warned not to add to or take away from the words of this prophecy. He repeated His promise, “I am coming soon.” The Church responded, “Come, Lord Jesus.” The Bible ends with the word “Amen,” affirming this hope.
