NEW TESTAMENT TRIVIA – PART 6

NEW TESTAMENT TRIVIA – PART 6

Summary (trivia questions follow)
After Paul was arrested and put on trial, he exercised his right as a Roman citizen and appealed his case to Caesar. Because of this, Paul was sent to Rome to stand trial before the emperor. A Roman centurion was assigned to escort him on the long journey by sea. During the voyage, a violent storm arose, and the ship was tossed for many days. Eventually, the ship was wrecked, and everyone on board swam safely to shore. They landed on the island of Malta.

The islanders welcomed Paul and the others kindly. While gathering wood for a fire, Paul was bitten by a poisonous snake. The people expected him to swell up and die, but nothing happened to him at all. This amazed them and showed God’s protection over Paul. The chief official of the island, Publius, welcomed Paul and his companions and showed them hospitality.

Paul eventually reached Rome, where he was placed under house arrest. Even while imprisoned, Paul continued preaching and teaching. His close companion Luke visited him often, along with Timothy and others. During this time, Paul wrote several letters, including the letter to the Philippians, which focuses on joy even in difficult circumstances.

One of the people connected to Paul during this imprisonment was Onesimus, a runaway slave. Onesimus belonged to a Christian man named Philemon. Paul wrote a letter to Philemon, asking him to forgive Onesimus and receive him back as a brother in Christ. Tychicus carried this letter to Philemon.

Paul also wrote letters to encourage churches. In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul emphasized unity in the Church. In Philippians, he stressed joy. In Colossians, he taught about the supremacy of Christ. Timothy helped Paul in ministry, and Paul later wrote letters to Timothy giving instructions for church leadership. Titus served as a leader on the island of Crete, and Paul wrote him a letter with guidance for organizing churches.

Paul often used examples in his teaching. He compared the Christian life to running a race, emphasizing discipline and perseverance. In Galatians, Paul listed the fruit of the Spirit, beginning with love, followed by joy and peace.

The letter to the Hebrews, whose author is unknown, explained that Jesus is our High Priest in the order of Melchizedek. It taught that Jesus’ sacrifice was offered once for all and replaced the old covenant. Jesus entered the holy place in heaven on our behalf and now intercedes for believers.

James, the brother of Jesus, wrote a letter stressing that faith must be shown through works. Peter wrote letters encouraging Christians who were suffering. John wrote about love and truth in his letters. Jude warned believers about false teachers and reminded them to stand firm in the faith.

The book of Revelation closes the New Testament. Jesus Himself speaks at the end of Revelation, promising His return and blessing those who remain faithful.
