NEW TESTAMENT TRIVIA – PART 4

NEW TESTAMENT TRIVIA – PART 4

Summary (trivia questions follow)
As the early Church continued to grow, the apostles realized they needed help caring for the community. They gathered the believers and chose seven men to serve as deacons so the apostles could focus on prayer and teaching. One of these deacons was Philip, who later traveled to Samaria to preach the Gospel. Many people believed, and God performed miracles through him. Another deacon, Stephen, boldly proclaimed Christ and became known for his wisdom and faith. He was later arrested and accused falsely.

Saul of Tarsus was a fierce persecutor of Christians. While traveling on the road to Damascus to arrest believers, a bright light from heaven suddenly surrounded him. Jesus spoke to Saul, and he was struck blind. Saul was led into the city, where a disciple named Ananias obeyed God and restored Saul’s sight. Saul immediately began preaching that Jesus is the Son of God. Because people wanted to kill him, believers helped him escape by lowering him in a basket through a wall. Barnabas later defended Saul and introduced him to the apostles, helping him gain their trust.

As the Church expanded, a major debate arose about whether Gentile converts needed to follow Jewish laws such as circumcision. This issue was discussed at the Council of Jerusalem. After much prayer and discussion, James, a leader in the Church, declared that Gentiles did not need to be circumcised to follow Christ. This decision allowed the Gospel to spread freely among non-Jews.

Paul continued his ministry and wrote many letters to churches. He wrote the letter to the Galatians, emphasizing freedom in Christ and salvation by grace, not by the law. The city of Corinth received two letters from Paul, addressing issues within the church there. Paul worked closely with companions such as Silas and Timothy, who helped strengthen young churches.

Paul also wrote letters from prison. One of these was Ephesians, which taught believers about spiritual warfare and the armor of God. Another prison letter, Philippians, focused on joy even during suffering. Paul also wrote to Philemon, a Christian leader, asking him to forgive and accept back his runaway slave Onesimus.

Timothy became a young pastor under Paul’s guidance. Paul wrote letters to Timothy giving instructions on church leadership. Paul also wrote to Titus, who served as a leader on the island of Crete, giving him guidance on organizing churches.

Other apostles continued to encourage believers. Peter wrote letters to Christians facing persecution. James taught that true faith must be shown through good works. Jude warned believers about false teachers who threatened the Church. The book of Hebrews explained that Jesus is the perfect High Priest in the order of Melchizedek and that His sacrifice replaced the old covenant.

Finally, the apostle John received a vision from God while exiled on the island of Patmos. He wrote the book of Revelation, describing the end times, the battle between good and evil, and the ultimate victory of Christ. John addressed seven churches, calling them to remain faithful. The Bible ends with a message of hope, reminding believers that Jesus will return and establish His eternal kingdom.
