NEW TESTAMENT TRIVIA – PART 3

NEW TESTAMENT TRIVIA – PART 3

Summary (trivia questions follow)
During His ministry, Jesus often taught using parables. One of the most famous is the Parable of the Good Samaritan, recorded in Luke’s Gospel. A lawyer once asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” and Jesus answered with this story, showing that true love crosses social and religious boundaries. Jesus also told the Parable of the Prodigal Son, which describes a father who joyfully welcomes his wayward son home. Through this story, Jesus revealed God’s mercy and forgiveness. Another important parable is the Parable of the Sower, where seeds fall on different types of soil, representing how people receive God’s Word. Jesus compared the Kingdom of God to a mustard seed, showing that something small can grow into something great.

Jesus continued performing miracles. He fed five thousand people with five loaves of bread, and afterward twelve baskets of food were left over. One night, Jesus walked on water toward the disciples’ boat. Peter asked to join Him and briefly walked on water, but when he doubted, he began to sink. In Bethany, Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead after he had been buried for four days, demonstrating His power over death.

In Bethany, Mary anointed Jesus’ feet with expensive perfume. Judas complained about the waste, pretending concern for the poor, but Jesus defended her act of love. This event took place shortly before Passover. Soon after, Jesus was arrested. Simon of Cyrene carried His cross, and Jesus was crucified at Golgotha. Above His head was a sign reading “King of the Jews.” After His death, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for Jesus’ body. Nicodemus helped with the burial.

On the third day, an angel rolled away the stone from the tomb. Mary Magdalene became the first person to see the risen Jesus. When Jesus appeared to His disciples, Thomas doubted until he touched Jesus’ wounds. Jesus remained with His followers for forty days before ascending into heaven from the Mount of Olives.

Ten days later, on Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples. Tongues of fire appeared above their heads, and they began speaking in many languages so people from every nation could understand. Peter preached, and three thousand people were baptized that day. The early believers shared their possessions and lived in unity.

Peter later healed a lame man at the temple gate. This miracle caused religious leaders to arrest Peter and John. An angel freed them from prison during the night. Among the believers were a married couple named Ananias and Sapphira. They lied about the money they donated, and both died suddenly as a warning about dishonesty. Peter rebuked them for lying to God.
