Letting the Holy Spirit Perfect Us
The Christian life is not about trying harder, performing better, or chasing an impossible ideal. It is about allowing God Himself to work in us. Scripture reminds us, “It is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). The Holy Spirit’s job is to perfect us. Our job is not to resist, but to allow the Spirit to complete the work God began before the foundation of the world. Before time began, we were already in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:4). In Him, we were complete. Yet Satan’s great deception is to convince us that we are not enough, that we must reach for something artificial to feel whole. But Jesus reveals the opposite - our true freedom comes not from striving, but from receiving.
The Humility of Christ
Think of a river. If you want it to follow a path, you must dig a trench lower than the river itself. Only then will it flow. That is what Jesus did. The Son of God humbled Himself lower than anyone, even to the point of death on a cross (Philippians 2:8), so that grace could flow into us. His humility created the channel through which God’s mercy could reach our hearts.
This is why He said, “No one comes to me unless the Father draws them” (John 6:44). The Father does not force; He draws. He carves out space within us so the living water of His Son can flow freely.
The Childlike Way
Jesus told His disciples, “Let the children come to me… for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these” (Mark 10:13–15). Again He prayed, “Father, you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children” (Matthew 11:25). To walk with God is to become childlike - trusting, humble, dependent. When we “drop into the childlike zone,” as one wise teacher put it, the devil loses his grip. Satan feeds on pride, fear, and control, but he has no weapon against childlike trust in the Father. And when we call upon the name of Jesus, every shadow must flee.
God’s Work, Not Ours
The enemy whispers, “You must fix this. You must do it.” But the truth of the Gospel is the opposite: you must let God do it in you. To live “in the name of Jesus” is to live in a posture of receiving - receiving the Father through the Holy Spirit, receiving the grace that transforms us. Inside every human being is, as it was beautifully said, “a baby waiting to be loved.” Each of us longs for the Father’s embrace. And when we stop striving, when we surrender, that love pours in and fills the emptiness no achievement or distraction ever could.
Direct Communion With God
There is no need for worldly substitutes, no need for false middlemen. God Himself wants to dwell in you. He gives His Spirit so that your communion with Him may be direct, intimate, and unbroken. The Christian life is not about “doing enough” to be loved. It is about realizing you are already loved, already chosen, already complete in Christ. The Spirit perfects us not by our frantic effort, but by our humble surrender.
So today, let go of the lie that you are incomplete. Call upon the name of Jesus. Lower yourself so the river of His grace may flow. Trust like a child. Let the Holy Spirit perfect you - and watch how God’s love will draw others through you.
