How to Remove Demonic Influence
If you believe you or someone you love is facing demonic oppression, here’s what the Church recommends:
Go to Confession
The Sacrament of Reconciliation breaks the chains of sin and drives demons out. Confession is often more powerful than any deliverance prayer.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us…” (1 John 1:9)
Return to the Sacraments
Attend Mass regularly
Receive the Eucharist in a state of grace
Adore Christ in the Blessed Sacrament
The sacraments are your spiritual armor.
Daily Prayer and Renunciation
Pray from the heart daily. Renounce any past involvement in the occult or sinful habits out loud. Use prayers such as:
The Our Father and Hail Mary
St. Michael Prayer
The Rosary, especially under the protection of Our Lady
Psalm 91 or 23
Personal renunciations: “In the name of Jesus Christ, I renounce all spirits of fear, lust, anger…” etc.
Use Blessed Sacramentals
Keep sacramentals in your home:
Holy water
Blessed salt
Crucifixes
Medals of saints, especially St. Benedict or St. Michael
Sacred images of Jesus and Mary
Use them reverently, not superstitiously. Their power comes from the blessing of the Church and your faith in Christ.
Live a Holy Life
A life rooted in virtue, humility, charity, and forgiveness is a life the enemy cannot dominate. Demons flee from the presence of holiness.
“Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” (James 4:7–8)
When to Seek Help
If a person experiences:
Severe psychological or spiritual torment
Uncontrollable reactions to prayer or blessed objects
Supernatural phenomena
Inability to pray or attend church despite desire
…they should consult a priest immediately. The Church has trained ministers who can guide individuals through discernment and, if necessary, an exorcism.
Final Word: Fear Not - But Be Vigilant
Demons are real - but so is the victory of Jesus Christ. Through His Cross, He has conquered sin, death, and every power of darkness. He gives us the sacraments, the Scriptures, and the communion of saints to fight with Him. So don’t be afraid. But don’t be naïve, either.

Stay close to Christ.
