Christians Are Among the Most Persecuted People on Earth - And Why We Must Stand Together
Religious freedom is often described as a basic human right, yet for millions of people around the world it is denied every day. Among all faith groups, Christians are consistently identified as one of the most persecuted religious communities on earth. Research from organizations such as Open Doors and Pew Research Center shows that Christians face harassment, discrimination, imprisonment, and violence in more countries than any other religious group. This does not mean Christians are the only ones suffering, but it does mean their persecution is widespread and severe.
What Persecution Looks Like Today
In places like North Korea, owning a Bible can result in prison or death. In parts of the Middle East and Africa, Christians face displacement, kidnappings, church burnings, and murder. In parts of Asia, they are monitored, arrested, or attacked for openly practicing their faith. Hundreds of millions of Christians live in environments where following Christ carries real risk.
Why Christians Are Targeted
Christians are often targeted because Christianity is global, visible, and viewed by extremists or authoritarian governments as a threat to control or ideology. When fear meets power, persecution follows.
Standing for One Means Standing for All
Standing against Christian persecution does not mean ignoring the suffering of others. Muslims, Jews, Yazidis, Rohingya Muslims, Bahá’ís, and many others also face horrific persecution. Defending religious freedom must apply to everyone, or it applies to no one at all.
The Cost of Silence
Silence is one of the greatest dangers persecuted people face. When those who live in freedom look away, injustice grows stronger. Awareness, prayer, support, and respectful advocacy matter more than many realize.
A Shared Responsibility
Christians are among the most persecuted people on earth today. The answer is not division or resentment, but solidarity. When people of all beliefs stand together for human dignity and freedom of conscience, persecution loses its power.
Standing together is not optional. It is our shared responsibility.
