A Real Relationship With God
We all know that relationships go both ways. You text them, they text back. You call them, and both of you are part of the conversation. Real relationships take effort from both sides. So why would it be any different when it comes to our relationship with God? Some people say, “Well, you can’t talk to Him.” But that’s not true. When you read your Bible, you are literally hearing God speak to you. Scripture is His message to us, showing us how to live and who He calls us to be. Others say, “You can’t feel Him.” But think about it - you don’t always feel love in human relationships either. That doesn’t mean love isn’t there. God is always knocking on the door of our hearts, waiting for us to open it. The doorknob is on our side. He won’t force His way in. So how can we expect to feel close to God if we keep shutting Him out?
Faith Isn’t Based on Feelings
We are not always going to feel God’s presence, and that’s okay. In what relationship do you feel the same excitement forever? Think about that Church camp feeling - when you give your life to Jesus for the tenth time that week and you feel that Holy Spirit buzz. It feels amazing. But when that feeling fades, it doesn’t mean God left. It just means your faith is growing deeper than emotions. God stays with us no matter what. That never changes. But if we don’t put effort into our relationship with Him, how can we expect it to grow? God is always giving more than we ever could. He loves us endlessly. We are His greatest creation. He never abandons us - but sadly, we sometimes abandon Him.
Choosing God Even When It’s Hard
There will be days when it feels easy to read the Bible and days when it feels like a chore. But when it feels hard, that’s when we should push ourselves the most. God calls us to pick up our cross daily. That means choosing Him even when we don’t feel like it. Working through distractions, temptations, and laziness so we can grow closer to Him.
Guard What You Let Into Your Heart
What we listen to and watch matters. Secular music and movies are often designed to pull us away from God. They twist our thinking and slowly make us comfortable with living worldly lives. The more we fill our minds with things that don’t honor God, the farther we drift from Him. If you want a stronger relationship with God, guard your heart. Fill your life with worship, Scripture, and people who help you grow in faith. Choose what brings you closer to God, not what pushes you away.
God already gave everything for us. Now He asks us to walk with Him daily. Not perfectly - just faithfully. Open the door. Talk to Him. Read His Word. Let Him guide you. A relationship with God is the most important relationship you will ever have.
