He began his career in 1970 as a deputy sheriff for the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department. In that capacity, he worked as a patrol officer, training officer, and was subsequently promoted to Headquarters Detective Division, Narcotics Bureau. After spending 9 years as a deputy sheriff, he moved to the Pacific Northwest and eventually accepted a position as an enforcement officer for the Washington State Lottery. As an enforcement officer, Mr. Walshs duties consisted of external fraud investigation, internal employee misconduct/theft investigations, background investigations for prospective licensed sales agents, and regulatory enforcement. Additional duties included physical security evaluations of licensed sales agents locations.
