Secrets on Buying a Luxury Ride

Always wanted a luxury ride but didn't want to spend the money? Well you can get one cheap if you know where and what to look for.  With gas prices on the rise, many people have opted to sell their luxury rides in fear, well below their actual value. Today, for example, there a brand new looking 2002 CL600 Mercedes for sale with only 10,000 original miles for about $25,000. That's less than the price of many new economy cars. In fact, the car originally sold for over $100,000! The fact is today's luxury cars are very durable. so 50,000 miles on the odometer is not a big deal. With regular maintenance and upkeep, your luxury ride should last you well over 100,000 miles trouble free. Also, most of the premium lines such as Mercedes, Porsche, Jaguar, Bentley, Rolls Royce, Range Rover and others don't change that much in style.  They maintain their classic styling.

What to Look for

One of the items you do need to investigate is the costs to maintain your vehicle. Though you might purchase it at a considerable discount, you do have to maintain it if you want to keep it running great on the road. For example, Brake work on a Mercedes or Porsche could easily run you $1,000.

Also, prior to purchasiong the car, it is always a good idea to have it checked by a qualified mechanic.  Most dealers will provide you a quick evaluation for a few hundred dollars. You want to make sure there is nothing seriously wrong prior to comitting to buy it.

You should also try and find a vehicle that has a complete record of service work done on the car, and be sure to get a CarFax report to ensure it has a clean title.

Where to Look

There are many online sites to find cars, including www.Cars.com, www.Autotrader.com, even auction sites such as www.Ebay.com list tons of cars to choose from.

You can also try visiting different luxury dealers as many have certified pre-owned vehicles with a minimal warranty included; however, they usually charge a premium for these which defeats the purpose of the money you are trying to save.

Many dealers purchase used cars at auctions and then sell them to the retail public through their dealerships or side lots. Many times, here is where you will get the best possible price.

In some cases, you can actually tell the dealer the specific car you are looking for, and they will purchase it on your behalf at the auction charging just a minimal fee for their time. This allows you the maximum price break.
