Child Safety Devices That You Must Have In Your Home

The lives of many of these kids could have been saved by simple child safety devices. Most of these child safety devices are easy to install and use and very affordable also. Don't procrasinate. Install safety latches and locks on the cabinets and drawers in the kitchen, bathroom and other places where you store the chemical products. These safety devices are very useful because they prevent children from gaining access to medicines, knives, and household cleaners.

Safety gates should be installed on stairs and rooms where you do not want your kids to venture. Always buy safety gates that display a certification seal from the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA).

Door knob covers and door locks help prevent your children from accessing areas of possible danger such as swimming pool, garage, and other hazardous areas.

To prevent your child from accidentally getting burnt from hot water, you should install anti-scald devices on your faucets and shower heads and set the water heater temperature to no more than 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

Smoke detectors should be installed on every level of your house. They must be installed near the bedrooms so that you know immediately in case of a fire. be sure to change the batteries once a year to ensure that they are always in running condition.

Your windows, balconies and decks should have window guards or safety nettings. These will help in preventing your kids from accidentally falling out of the window or the balcony. However, leave atleast one window in each room without these guards to be used for fire escape.

Very often, kids are seriously injured when they fall against the sharp edges of furniture or the fireplace. By using corner and edge bumpers on the furniture and fireplace, you can prevent such accidents.

Outlet covers and plates are great child safety devices that help protect kids from electrical shock and electrocution. Make sure that the outlet covers cannot be easily removed by the kids. Also, they should be large enough so that your children do not accidentally choke on them.

If you are using oil or gas heating or if your bedroom is attached to the garage, you should install a carbon monoxide detector.

You should cut your window blind cords and instead, use window blind cord safety tassels. This helps prevent children from accidentally strangling themselves in blind cord loops.

Door stops and holders should be installed on every door helping order to prevent your kid's hands or fingers from getting crushed.

When your child is in the bathtub or in the swimming pool, you should have your cordless phone handy. You should never leave them unattended if you need to make a call or answer a phone.
